In Matthew 6:16, Jesus says, "Whenever you fast . . ." This means there was an expectation for followers of Jesus to fast. We see many examples throughout the scriptures of God's people fasting and praying, humbly seeking God. Fasting, the abstaining of food, is basically saying to ourselves and to God, "God, you are more important than the food my body need." It exposes our weakness, but moves us to trust more fully in God's power. It is a desperate dependence that says no to our flesh and yes to Jesus.
EVERY FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH, Peace City Church is committing to fasting from food and intentionally praying throughout the day. As we start the month, it is our declaration that Jesus is most important to us. Join us in fasting and praying.
